Our Origins: A Family History

MARANELLO WINES was born from the vision of the Barbieri family. The family began its journey in the wine sector back in 1950, when Aimo Barbieri, the founder of the first family business, created a company dedicated to the harvesting and pressing of Lambrusco grapes, which characterize winemaking in the Modena and Reggio Emilia area.

In the 1980s, the Barbieri family expanded its activities by acquiring several land properties in Northern and Central Italy.

Between the 1980s and 1990s, the second generation of the Barbieri family joined the business, expanding operations into the wine bottling sector. From this strategic decision, and through the vision of Bruno Barbieri, MARANELLO WINES was founded. Based in the heart of the Emilian “Food Valley,” its core business focuses on the production and marketing of sparkling wines under the Maranello brand and still wines under the Cantina del Duca brand.

Growing up among the family vineyards and cellars allowed our founder to learn the secrets of winemaking, respect for the land, and, above all, the ability to recognize superior quality wine.

This generational know-how is the beating heart of our company: we are not mere traders; we are deep connoisseurs of the raw material.

However, observing the evolution of international markets, we realized that tradition alone was no longer enough. A new approach was needed to meet the demands of modern distribution.

This model allows us to be flexible and guarantee the highest standards. Every single bottle leaving our warehouses is produced in facilities operating under the strictest international certifications, which are essential for working with Large-Scale Retailers (GDO) and the most demanding foreign markets:

  • BRC (British Retail Consortium): Global standard for food safety.

  • IFS (International Food Standard): Guarantee of quality and process compliance.

  • ISO 9001/14001/45001: Certifications for quality management, environment, and occupational safety.

We do not just sell wine; we guarantee the genuineness, traceability, and food safety of every batch, thanks to rigorous controls carried out by qualified personnel directly at the production plants.

We are the ideal partner for the B2B market. We export the iconic wines of the Italian tradition worldwide (EU and Non-EU): Prosecco, Moscato, Lambrusco, Pinot Grigio, and other typical Italian wines.
